SKI INSTRUCTING IN HUNGARY
In Hungary recreational and leisure-time skiing started in the 70's. Suddenly hundred thousands of people were eager to learn how to ski. For this impact in 1987 the Hungarian Ski Instructors Club (MSC) was founded. Under the supervision of MSC there was a demand for professional ski instructors, therefore in 1989 SMC was replaced by a new association that is called the Hungarian Ski Instructors Association (SMSZ).
Since its foundation the aim of SMSZ is to spread ski-culture all over the country. One of the main goals is to provide Hungarian skiers with modern and safe skiing skills in order to secure them on the slopes while conquesting the mountains. Continuously since 1991 SMSZ is authorized to carry out the education (sport specific theory and practice) for the national ski instructors' qualification. There are 360 active members of the SMSZ and annually 30 to 50 people pass successfully the ski instructors' examination on first level of SMSZ's three level training system.
SMSZ works closely with the Semmelweis University, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, Institute of Coaching and Sport Education (ICSE) where the vocational education is provided and where one can become an official ski instructor registered in the national qualification system. Together with ICSE, SMSZ also deals with continuing education in alpine skiing for school teachers. SMSZ further cooperates with the School's Ski Instructors Organization where the basic training of skiing skills for physical education teachers is provided.
SMSZ put all its effort into serving the ski instructors society by nursing and assisting international relations and sport diplomatic activities. SMSZ is a member of several international ski and other snowsport organizations of the world responsible for instructing. SMSZ was enrolled to INTERSKI in 1991 during the Interski Congress held in St. Anton. It is a member of ISIA since 2004, whereas a member of IVSI since 1990. Since then we are active members on the congresses of these organizations where our instructors not only participate but receive active role as lecturers and workshop instructors. Further, our demo team proves the preparedness of the Hungarian ski technique.
